A comprehensive education

At our school, we aim to educate children who are complete, fulfilled, guided by solid values, and involved in building a better future. We train conscious and active citizens, with global skills to better adapt to the demands of a world in constant transformation.

We receive and accompany children from Nursery to the end of Primary School, in a welcoming and familiar environment, giving priority to the following fundamental elements in the training of our students: learning to be, learning to know, learning to do, and learning to live together.

Socio-emotional education

We actively promote the development of socio-emotional skills in our students, developing activities that work on aspects such as self-knowledge, recognition of emotions, empathy, self-confidence, relationships with others, resilience, and personal growth.

Personal, knowledge acquisition and citizenship dimensions

In fulfilling the comprehensive education of students, our educational project comprises three key dimensions: personal – development of autonomy, decision making and problem solving, acquisition of knowledge – development of the content areas of curricular guidelines and essential learning, and the exercise of citizenship – development of solidarity and social impact actions that involve the entire school community.

Active participation of families

We value and promote the contribution of families in the construction of our school project that encourages the active participation and presence of parents in the various activities of our daily lives. We believe that this partnership contributes to a healthier development of our students and to facilitate their learning processes.

Nursery

In a reassuring environment, we wake up to the world and we conquer our first learning steps.

In the first three years of life, children learn through active exploration of their own body and through interaction with others to discover the world around them.

In our Nursery, we privilege the affective relationship, in a reassuring, organized, stimulating and flexible environment, promoting in children, skills such as: self-knowledge, autonomy, security, curiosity, communication and language, and affective and social relationships.

Our nursery children´s achievements are based on the three Areas of Development: Personal and Socio-Emotional (ability to relate to others, play, communicate, learn, deal with challenges, and express emotions), Cognitive (structure of thought, oral language, logical-mathematical and scientific thinking, and spatial organisation) and Physical-Motor (fine and gross motor skills, body scheme and spatial organisation).

At a stage of child development in which the involvement and appreciation of the family are of particular importance, work is always carried out in close liaison with the parents, in an affective and mutually sharing environment.

Pre-School

Hand in hand, we build our knowledge

At Colégio da Fonte we believe in children, and in the importance of early and contextualized discovery of the world and relationships. As a group, curiosity is prompted, the world around us is explored, and projects are developed in the classroom, stimulating the processes of learning and co-construction of knowledge, in an environment of listening, sharing and cooperation. In this age group, emotions become more complex and, as such, recognizing, using and/or controlling them are essential aspects in the child’s global development. Thus, at Colégio da Fonte we provide children with experiences that allow them to develop socio-emotional intelligence. We respect the Curriculum Guidelines for Pre-School Education, approaching the content areas – Personal and Social Training, Expression and Communication and Knowledge of the World – in a transversal way, complementing them with curricular activities specific to our educational project. Taking into consideration the various learning methods, and the principle that each child is unique in their way of learning, Colégio da Fonte provides the most appropriate methodologies for each child’s profile.

Primary School

Walking side by side, we build our learning and values.

In primary, we respect the uniqueness of each student, cognitively, socially and emotionally, being our starting point to structure a pedagogical work focused on the development of five fundamental skills: autonomy, cooperation, communication, responsibility and argumentative thinking.

Colégio da Fonte values pedagogical procedures and practices that guide students in their learning process, recognising their unique profile in the way they apprehend information and acquire knowledge.

The teaching-learning process focuses on the development of knowledge, skills, and attitudes, essential at the beginning of the academic path and the basis of all future learning, promoting the interconnection between academic and socio-emotional objectives.

We believe that the school should be a place for dialogue, questions discussion, questioning and sharing of knowledge; where there is room for transformations, for differences, for error, for teamwork and for creativity. We defend compliance with norms, values and principles that frame a context of innovation and student motivation for personal and academic success.

The use of active methodologies is essential to allow each student to acquire the basic and structural learning that they will need throughout their life, in adapting to a reality in constant and accelerated transformation.

In carrying out our educational project, we go beyond the curriculum, working on projects that, in a transversal way, cover the areas of competence provided for in the Profile of Students Leaving Compulsory Schooling, deepening specific learning and attitudes that we value as core.
